Russian and Bulgarian government representatives have upgraded the states’ bilateral air services pact, allowing two designated carriers on key routes.

The talks in Sofia on 24-25 January discussed the “significant” increase in traffic between the two countries, says a record of the meeting released by Russian air transport regulator Rosaviatsia.

Two airlines from each side will be allowed to operate the Moscow-Sofia, Moscow-Varna and Moscow-Burgas routes.

The two sides also agreed to double the frequency of flights available to 14 for Moscow-Sofia, and to 28 weekly for Moscow-Burgas, and treble the number for Moscow-Varna to 21.

Aeroflot andBulgaria Aircurrently operate scheduled flights between the two capitals, according to FlightGlobal’s network database, while onlyS7 Airlinesserves Moscow-Burgas and Moscow-Varna.
