Embraer delivers first Phenom for UK training programme

Embraer has delivered its first Phenom 100 to be used during multi-engine pilot training for the UK armed forces, with the adapted business jet to appear in the static display at the Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT) later this month.

Accepted at the Brazilian manufacturer's So Jos dos Campos site on 4 July, the aircraft is the first of at least five Phenom 100s to be acquired by Affinity Flight Training Services – a joint venture between Elbit Systems UK and KBR. Embraer says its contract also includes services support, as well as an option for additional, follow-on aircraft.

The first delivery was performed "ahead of the original programme schedule", notes Affinity managing director Iain Chalmers. The company is responsible for delivering a new fleet of fixed-wing training assets under the UK Military Flying Training System (MFTS) programme. In addition to the eventual five Phenoms, this will also include 23 Grob Aircraft G120TPs and 10 Beechcraft T-6Cs.

Nine G120TP elementary trainers have already arrived in the UK, with Affinity having recently accepted a further two at Grob's production facility in Germany. The MFTS programme's first T-6C (below) made its debut flight in late May.
